Well Aren't You a Cute Thing

Who doesn't love wine? It comes in such a variety, be it red or white, sweet of dry. With this variety comes just as many bottles and amazing corks. Some of us like to save wine corks and that is like a treasure trove to me. What possibly could we do with so many extra corks except to make something that is equally amazing and cute.

So in the spirit of Thanksgiving we made these pumpkins! They were so fun to make and everyone can add their own twist. Even those of us who can't tie bows. Don't worry you can thank Rhonda for helping this bow disaster out, really making my pumpkins as awesome as they are.

If you need to dig your corks out of a jar get your pencil out! The large pumpkin takes 24 corks and the small pumpkin takes 10 corks. Yes, that's right we fished almost 90 cheap corks out of the bottle.

We used a hot glue gun and glued each row together laying them on a flat surface and then glued the rows together to form the pumpkin. Once this was done it was time to paint, also something that I'm not very talented at. Using a paintbrush we just painted over the red stain of the wine bottles.

After that you can take the pumpkin wherever you want it to go. For ours Rhonda found a wood looking wire in the floral department of the Hobby Lobby. Cutting the layers at different lengths wrap it around a simple lead pencil to create the spiral and then pull it to make it twist and turn or spiral the way that you like.

The leaves of the pumpkins were cut from, you guessed it the leaflet thin lets from Stampin' Up! We used corrugated green and old olive paper. Using the end of my bone tool we gave it a little curve to be more three dimensional. What is a pumpkin stem without wood scraps?

Yes, that's right we just used small pieces of scraps leftover from a wood project ranging from 1.5" to 2" for the stems. Once the stems were glued to the top of the pumpkin then add the leaves. Three for the large pumpkin and two for the small ones. Add on the pieces of wiring.

To top of the pumpkin we need to add the finishing touches which includes the ever dreaded bow. Never fear Rhonda did it for me, so the pumpkins would stay cute! Once that was glued on the top of the pumpkin they are ready to show off.

Well, in the dogs case they are ready to lick, until they smell like dog then they can be left alone.
